Director Peter Berg was in Colombia in the company of his production team and cast to shoot scenes for his upcoming action film Mile 22

Mile 22 is the most ambitious film shot since the creation of the Bogotá Film Commission. Hence, the District Institute of Arts (Idartes) was responsible for advising and securing permits for shoot, which took place during the months of January and February in locations in and near Bogotá.

The film tells the story of a CIA officer who joins a tactical command unit to smuggle a police officer out of the country. Interestingly, the film is not set in Colombia. The films that have put the country on the map of world cinema deal with various topics and do not necessarily reference drug trafficking or war.

The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Academy Award nominee for The Fighter and The Departed; John Malkovich, twice nominated for an Academy Award, and Lauren Cohan, who has starred in The Walking Dead. The production hired a total of 1800 people for different positions, including 156 Colombians for technical positions and 200 extras per shooting day.

The shoot came about as part of an alliance between STX Films and the Colombian production company Dynamo Producciones, known for the series Narcos and films such as Loving Pablo, The 33, and American Made, among others.

"It's a big production overall. There are twenty-nine departments involved in the shoot, between cameras, photography, sound, video, lighting, special and visual effects, action doubles, hair and makeup, wardrobe, props, gunsmiths, art and design, construction, drones, health and safety, distribution, locations, paramedics, production, food, accounting, transport, legal translations… anyway," said Stephen Donehoo, one of the consultants on the shoot during the first days of production.
