BOGOSHORTS heads to Montreal

BOGOSHORTS World Tour, an initiative of BOGOSHORTS Movement that aims to enrich and contribute to the circulation of Colombian short films worldwide, was present at the forty-eighth edition of the Festival du Nouveau Cinema de Montréal (FNC)

The forty-eighth Festival du Nouveau Cinema de Montréal (FNC) was held October 9-20. The Canadian event is considered one of the world’s reference points for experimental cinema. On this occasion it sought to bring new talents of Colombian cinema to the Canadian public with seven short films from the last edition of the Bogotá Short Film Festival (BOGOSHORTS). In addition to screening the films, Jaime E. Manrique, director of BOGOSHORTS, participated in FORUM, the festival’s industry section, and served as jury of the Official Competition.
 
BOGOSHORTS World Tour is an initiative that seeks to find international spaces for the exhibition of Colombian short films. During 2018, it traveled to some of the most important short film festivals in Italy, Germany, the United States, and Brazil. Throughout 2019 it has been presenting Colombian talent at events such as the Festival de Jóvenes Realizadores de Granada in Spain; the twenty-first Semana del Cortometraje de Madrid; the seventeenth Vision Youth Awards in Beijing, China; the fortieth Durban International Film Festival in South Africa; the Developing Your Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland; and the twenty-third Lima International Film Festival in Peru.
 
In Montreal, BOGOSHORTS presented six short films from the National Experimental Competition of the sixteenth Bogotá Short Film Festival (BOGOSHORTS) along with one film from the National Documentary Competition: Common distances (Colombia, Cuba) co-production by Camilo Montoya Grajales; Fosfeno (Germany, Colombia) by David Gómez Alzate, winner of a Saint Lucia, the official statuette of BOGOSHORTS, for Best Sound Design; Before my eyes (Colombia, Canada) by Lina Rodríguez; Alétheia (Colombia) by Italian-born director Enrique Mandirola; The Secret Genie of the Spyglass (Colombia, Denmark, Greece) by Lina Rodríguez; New anxiety by Sofía Reyes; and Our song to war (Belgium, Colombia) by Juanita Onzaga, which received the Saint Lucia for Best Documentary Short Film, Best Music, and Best Poster.
 
Within FORUM, the Short Film Programmers panel was held on Tuesday, October 15 at 11:00 am with the participation of Jaime E. Manrique, artistic director and founder of BOGOSHORTS and BOGOSHORTS Movement. Attendees interacted with the programmers and creators of the most important international short film festivals in the world. Manrique’s fellos panelists were Sang-Hoon Lee, programmer of the Busan International Short Film Festival, South Korea; Anne Gaschütz, deputy director and coordinator of the Visegrád Forum Filmfest Dresden, Germany; Enrico Vannucci, short film advisor of the Venice Film Festival, Italy; and Claudio Zilleruelo, Artistic Director and Programmer of the Black Canvas Festival, Mexico. Manrique was also part of the Official Jury.
 
BOGOSHORTS was also present on Thursday, October 17, at 10:30 am, in the panel Markets: Looking South, space in which the Latin American market was discussed along with opportunities to discover new projects. The goal of the panel was to promote collaboration between Canada and Latin America, identify Latin markets and discuss means of financing.
