2. Evolution of Colombian Film Industry

  • Admissions at Colombian films in the first half of 2015 grew by 53,5% (2,006,085) compared to the first half of 2014 (1,306,555). This includes films released in other years and screened in 2015.

  • The percentage of Colombian film releases out of the total number of releases in Colombia was 10.3% in the first half of 2015, 2.5% higher than in the first half of 2014.

  • Admissions at Colombian films take place in the context of a growing number of Colombian and foreign films.

  • The price of movie tickets in Colombia fell in the first half of 2015 (COP 8,502) compared to the first half of 2014 (COP 8,892).

  • The average price in dollars of movie tickets in Colombia, at the June exchange rate and adjusted for inflation to the June CPI, remains above three dollars, with a slight decrease in the first half of 2015.

  • 3D movies still top the list of movie theater admissions in Colombia.
  • Box office refers only to gross per film; admissions, on the other hand, refers to the number of tickets sold. Therefore, although there is some correlation between the two variables or metrics, they may fluctuate from film to film, primarily due to the marginal costs in the ticket price and the format in which each film is screened.
