MOSTRO

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Carlos witnesses how a man brutally murders his best friend in the dark streets of one of the most impoverished and violent neighborhoods of Bogota. Not knowing what to do or where to go, Carlos takes shelter with his brother, a student leader who fled the violent neighborhood they grew up in years ago. His brother Ernesto, in exchange for his help, asks Carlos to come along to his workplace: a sordid psychiatric hospital where Carlos ends up instinctively saving the life of Ana, a young bipolar girl who was trying to commit suicide for the eighth time.   From now on, in the middle of a city burning in violent demonstrations between students and riot police, and a gloomy psychiatric hospital where inmates reveal their most distressing stories, Carlos will have to decide if he is a murderer ready to avenge his friend at the expense of his own life, or a savior who will learn to live by holding onto the hand of someone who only wishes to die.
