Actor / Actress

Marlon Moreno

One of the most outstanding film and television actors in Colombia in recent years. His roles in the Canal RCN series El Capo and in Carlos Moreno’s feature film Perro come perro introduced him to international audiences, with five awards at different festivales for his work in the latter. He is back in Roberto Flores Prieto’s Cazando luciérnagas and Antonio Dorado’s Amores peligrosos.

Born in Cali, Colombia on May 18th, he studied Dramatic Arts at the Universidad del Valle in Cali and at the School of Scenic Arts and Sciences in Bogotá. He also attended courses at the Universidad de Las Américas in Puebla, Mexico and in France and studied corporal expression and voice at the Neutral Circle Movement in Paris.

He launched his acting career as a theater actor in his home town. His first regional television work came with the TV soap Vidas robadas and the Telepacífico comedy Gente fresca. He won Best Regional Actor at the Simon Bolivar Awards and, recalling this period in his career, has said “They were 11 years of difficult experiences… a tough time, a time of physical hunger, sadness, no belief in anything because there didn’t seem to be anything good, but I think it was all necessary. A real actor has to suffer, do without, and experiement. Otherwise, where are you supposed to get the raw materials needed to develop your characters? I am grateful to life for teaching me tenacity.” His work in the theater includes roles in Crónica de una muerte anunciada (2000) and the comedy Último macho bruno (2002).

He earned national recognition for his television role as Victor Leal in La mujer del presidente, which earned him several awards as Best New Actor and Best Supporting Actor in 1997. He has appeared in soaps and series such as Las ejecutivas (1996); La dama del pantano (1998), Sin límites; Reina de Queens (1999); El precio del silencio (2001); No renuncies Salomé (2003); La saga (2004); El pasado no perdona (2005); Mercaderes de la muerte (2008); La informante (2007); El mal perdedor (2007); El ultimo matrimonio feliz (2007-2008); Broma pesada (2007); La beca (2007), El ventilador (2007), Tiempo Final, Regreso a la guaca and El Capo, among others. “I’ve played the gay man, the victim, the crazy man, the lover, and generally accept roles that I find challenging,” he says.

In addition to these roles he played El Pollo in his film debut in 2003, in Antonio Dorado’s El Rey (2004); followed by the role of Lieutenant Solórzano in Rodrigo Triana’s Soñar no cuesta nada, which earned him an India Catalina award for BestSupporting Actor, and as Víctor Peñaranda in Carlos Moreno’s Perro come perro, which earned him Best Actor at the 2007 Guadalajara Film Festival. He starred in Gustavo Nieto Roa’s Entre Sabanas (2008) and then in Camila Lizaraso’s El ángel del acordeón, Antonio Dorado’s Amores peligrosos, William González’s La sargento Matacho, Henry Rivero’s Secreto de confesión and Roberto Flores Prieto’s Cazando luciérnagas
