Yesid Ricardo Vásquez Rubiano “Minga” was born in Bogotá on December 9, 1970. He specializes direct sound for audiovisual productions and has 13 years of experience in feature films, documentaries, television and advertising spots. Yesid has worked with many of Colombia’s finest directors and on international productions.
 
He graduated in 1988 from the Colegio Distrital Simón Rodríguez and earned his Directing degree from the Film and Television School of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2003). He attended a Direct Sound Seminar in 1993 at the Universidad Nacional, took part in the Colombian Ministry of Culture’s international "Thinking of Documentaries" seminar in 1998 and was awarded a Colombo-Argentine film internship from the Ministry of Culture in 2004 during which time he completed post-graduate studies in sound recording at the Escuela Nacional de Experimentación y Realización  Cinematográfica (ENERC) in Buenos Aires. He has trained sound engineers as part of the Ministry of Culture’s Film Office INI (Imagining Our Image) Program on a number of occasions and has been a guest professor at several national universities.
 
Yesid worked sound at the Pequeño Teatro Petra for “Imago Mundi” and “Pinocho y Frankenstein le tienen miedo a Harrison Ford” and for the Mapa Teatro productions of “Ansío Los Alpes” and “Testigo de las ruinas”. He began working in audiovisual production in 2003 when he wrote and directed the short 16mm film Entre los tres for his graduate thesis. He went on to do sound for the short films Ciudad crónica (2006) and Collar de perlas (2007) directed by Klych López, Calle 6 sur (2007) by Lasse Lindsteen, La serenata (2008) by Carlos César Arbeláez, Con todos los servicios (2008) by Andrés Marroquín, Cuando vuelva a llover (2008) by Carlos López, El reino animal (2010) and El corazón de la mancha (2010) by Rubén Mendoza, Los niños buenos se acuestan temprano (2010) by Alfonso Acosta and was the sound engineer for the animated short Mocos (2010) by Pavel Molano.
 
His documentary sound work includes El cantor del sur: Aurelio Arturo (2007) by Alberto Moncayo, Del interior de la tierra (2007) by John Fernando Velásquez and Raynier Buitrago (which he also co-produced) and La esperanza es lo único que se pierde (2009) by John Fernando Velásquez. He was sound engineer on Tiempos de arena (2008) by Gustavo Fernández, Los guardianes de la libertad (2008) by Diana Rico and Richard Decaillet, Caminar la palabra: La minga en Bogotá (2009) by Lyta TV, Uno, la historia de un gol (2010) by Carlos Moreno and Gerardo Muyshondt, El evangelio según Camilo by Diego Briceño and produced by Cuiba Films (Canada), The sand and the rain (2009) by Peter Webber, Amor azul (2010) by John Fernando Velásquez and A los 15 uno ya es grande (2010) by Klych López. He co-produced and was the sound engineer for the documentary series Sur, de viaje con Alfredo Molano by Miguel Gutiérrez and did the sound for the National Geographic series The Light at the Edge of the World: Chapter IV (2009) directed by Howard Reid.
