Diego Bustamante

Diego Bustamante studied engineering at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, before finding his true passion in film. He has worked as a director and screenwriter. He studied film at the Séptima Ars school in Madrid, where he received a degree in Film Directing and studied camera and lighting for film.
In 2005, he won the digital media creation grant from the Colombian Ministry of Culture, together with the Jaibana collective, and later that year he founded the company Interregno. He taught film at the Blackmaría school from 2007 until 2010, and in 2008 he founded the production house Proyección Films, where he is currently the Creative Director and Development Producer.
With Proyección Films, Bustamante directed and conducted research for the documentary short La orquesta tiene la palabra. He was also part of the directing and research team on the TV program Señales de arte, broadcast by the public television network Señal Colombia.
He has produced the feature films The Muddy, by Felipe Echavarría, winner of a Film Development Fund (FDC) post-production incentive award in 2012; Marcela Lizcano’s documentary Isolated, 2012 FDC winner in the documentary production category; Esteban Ramírez’s Presos, winner of the Ibermedia production prize; and La pesca del atún blanco, set for release this year.
In 2012, he premiered his directorial debut Sin palabras, which he co-directed and co-wrote along with Ana Sofía Osorio Ruíz, and which he also edited. This project won a feature film production award from the FDC in 2010. His second feature as a director is Empeliculados (2017), which he wrote, produced, and edited.

Diego also edited the feature film La espera, by Ana Sofía Osorio, and Río seco, by Pedro Hernández. He is currently Academic Director of the Villa de Leyva Film Festival.
