Marcela Mar

Marcela Mar was born in Bogota on March 16, 1979 as Marcela Gardeazábal. She began her acting training at age eight, when her parents enrolled her in a program at the Teatro Nacional in Bogota. Her television career was launched in 1998, with a starring role in the series Sin límites. Her performance earned her the 1999 TV and Telenovelas Award for Best Lead Actress in a Series, a TV and Telenovelas nomination for Best New Actress, and a Shock Award for Best New Actress.
 
She went on to act in Marido y mujer (1999); Pedro el escamoso (2001), which won her the Colombian Young Professionals Association Award in Houston, Texas in 2002; and, in a starring role, Escribiendo como una loca (2003). She performed in Todos quieren con Marilyn (2004), which earned her the distinction of Best Supporting Actress in the TV and Telenovelas Awards and the India Catalina Awards in 2005, and a nomination for an India Catalina in 2006.
 
She continued with television roles in Reinas (2005); Pura sangre (2007), for which she was nominated for Best Lead Actress at the TV and Telenovelas Awards and the India Catalina Awards; El Capo (2009), which brought her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2010 India Catalina Awards; Operación Jaque (2010), which earned her a nomination for Best Lead Actress at the 2011 India Catalina Awards; Mentes en shock (2011); Mujeres asesinas (2012); Infiltrados (2012); El talismán (2012); Manual para ser feliz (2014); and Demente criminal (2014).
 
In film, she has performed in Tres hombres tres mujeres (2003), by Carlos Hernández; Satanás (2007), by Andrés Baiz; Love in the Time of Cholera (2007), by Mike Newell; Music Angels (2008), by María Camila LizarazoFat, Bald, Short Man (2011), by Carlos OsunaThe Hidden Face (2011), by Andi Baiz; Cambio de ruta (2014), by Christopher Hool; Abducted (2015), by Conor Allyn; and Casa por cárcel, by Gustavo Bolívar (2017).
 
In theater, Marcela has had roles in the plays La basura (1996), Teatro del Parque (2000), Las Bellas y las Bestias (2003), Dos hermanas (2004), Carta de una desconocida (2005), and Venus en Piel - Vanda - (2014). She also toured internationally with the play Dos hermanas, and took part in international theater festivals in Bogota and the Colombian city of Manizales.
