Director, Screenplay

Nina Marín

She is a filmmaker from Valledupar, experienced in directing and screenwriting. Her first feature film, Tierra quebrá  (Broken land), received funding from the Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico - FDC for Fiction Feature Film Postproduction in 2021 and was released in Colombia on February 2, 2023, distributed by La Alucinante Fábrica.

Marín has a Diploma in Film, Video, and Television Direction and Production from the Universidad Europea del Atlántico in Spain and a Master's degree in Dramatic Art from the Universidad del Atlántico in Colombia, for which dissertation she received honors. She completed the Advanced Scriptwriting Workshop and the Film Actors Direction and Acting Workshop (Meisner Technique) at Cuba's International Film and Television School of San Antonio de Los Baños - EICTV.

She is a lawyer and specialist in Administrative Law. Marín served as a Film Advisor for the Film Council of the Department of Cesar. She was a juror at the International Children and Youth Film Festival - Festicinekids in Cartagena (2018) and served as a curator for the festival's 2019 edition.

Marín has created several fiction short films, including Antes de llover (Before rain) —first prize Relatos Regionales en el Cesar of the Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico - FDC in 2018, and selected at the International Film Festival of Alicante (Spain) in 2020. Other notable works include Manuel, un pedazo de felicidad (Manuel, a piece of joy); Elemento (Element); El décimo juglar (The tenth minstrel); and Lo que la distancia no borra (What distance cannot erase). This project received support from the Ministry of Culture of Colombia in 2017 and won her the Colombia-United States Artistic Residency (Fountainhead Residency) in Miami.

Tierra quebrá, her debut film, was shot in 2020 in Valledupar, Cesar, at locations such as Las Raíces, Los Corazones, the Badillo River, and La Serranía de Perijá. The film features a desert environment, which is not typical of Cesar's geography. This unique setting gives the film a universal appeal while staying true to the essence of the Colombian Caribbean. The technical team consisted of more than 20 people from various departments in the Caribbean region, and the cast included over 70 people, including primary and secondary actors, bit-players, and extras.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the film's post-production took place during isolation, allowing for deep reflection during the editing process. The post-production was carried out with the participation of companies such as HD Argentina for coloring and Futuro Digna for the finalization. The feature film was produced by Marines Films, a Colombian film production company represented by Oscar Alvarado González and committed to women-directed stories.

Nina marín has several other projects in development, including Púrpura (Purple) and El camino de las luciérnagas (The firefly trail), a fiction series called Múcura (Pitcher), and a feature film in pre-production called El giro del mulato (The mulatto twist). As a writer, she has created several short and feature film scripts and the stage comedy Aquí todo cuesta (Everything here costs). Although she has explored almost all genres, drama and comedy are her favorite, and she is currently interested in science fiction.
