AMPARO

After a long night’s shift, Amparo, a single mother of two, returns home to find out her children are not there. Her eldest son Elias failed to pick up his little sister Karen from school. Elias is a troubled young man, he didn’t study and doesn’t work. While searching for him, Amparo soon finds out that he has been drafted as a 'regular soldier' during an army raid and will be sent to the front in a feared war zone, far from the city. His fate is doomed.
With only a single day left until his departure, Amparo manages to contact a man who offers to change his exam results and get him out, but the money he asks is well beyond her means.
With nothing much on her side, Amparo decides to embark on a journey against time in a society ruled by corrupt and insensitive men, well aware that the task at hand is an almost impossible undertaking. In the end, she must decide how far she is willing to go in order to keep her family together and her son away from war.

Colombian film director, producer, programmer, teacher who explores issues of identity, gender, minorities and migration. Mother, feminist, gender rights activist for women in film through her brand Josephine LF. She studied Film and Communication at the Freie Universität Berlin. Her films have received several recognitions. "El Primer Baile" (fiction short, 2018) won Special Mention of the Jury at WeCam Fest 2020 for contributing to a more inclusive society. "Home - the country of illusion" (documentary feature, 2016, supported by ProImágenes Colombia) - BAM Señal Colombia Award, IDARTES National Cinematheque Award, nominated for "Best Documentary Film", Macondo 2017 Colombian film awards. "Grenzenlos" (documentary 2011) received the “BeBerlinInternational” recognition of the Berlin City Hall. Her film "Mister Tierra Bomba (doc feature) will premiere in 2021. Her third feature doc "Memories Lost and Found" (supported by ProImágenes Colombia) and her first fiction feature are in development.

She is a member of the Colombian Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (ACCAC) in the specialty of Directing, member of Dones Visuals, European Women’s Audiovisual Network, CIMA and Girls Club Women & Hollywood. She is the founder of the production company Global Eyes Production and creator of the first online directory of organizations working on gender equality in Ibero-American cinema: Accionmujeres.com.
