1. Evolution of Colombian Film Market




  • The number of movie admissions in 2014 rose 7.5% compared to 2013, for a total of 46,526,192.




  • In 2014, per capita admissions grew 6.28% compared to 2013.




  • Admissions in the first and second half of 2014 grew by 5.84% and 9.22% respectively, compared to the first and second half of 2013.




  • Box office receipts in 2014 exceeded 2013 revenues by 32,034,309,340 pesos, the equivalent of 13,665,174 dollars. The average exchange rate between 2013 and 2014 saw an increase of 21%




  • In 2014, 274 films were released, 30 more than in 2013.




  • In 2014, 28 Colombian films were released, 11 more than in 2013 and five more than in 2012, when more Colombian productions were released than in any previous year.




  • In 2014 Colombian films accounted for 10.2% of the total number of releases, i.e., 3.25% more than in 2013.




  • The number of screens increased by 80 in 2014, compared to 2013 figures.




  • In 2014 film admissions increased in all cities, compared to 2013. Bogota remained in the top spot for admissions, with a total of 18,096,318
  • Cali positioned itself as the city with the most film admissions after Bogota, with 4,495,658, followed by Medellin (4,060,824), Bucaramanga (2,175,083), and Barranquilla (2,130,387).
  • Admissions in other cities in the country (Others) added up to 15,567,922.
  • Of the five major cities, Barranquilla showed the greatest growth in admissions, with an increase of 14.39%.
