2. Evolution of Colombian Film Industry

  • Admissions at Colombian films in 2014 grew by 1.64% compared to 2013. Admissions at the 28 films released broke down as follows: six had more than 100,000 admissions; five had between 10,000 and 100,000; fourteen had between 1,000 and 10,000 admissions; and finally, three had fewer than 1,000 admissions.

  • The percentage of Colombian film releases out of the total number of releases in Colombia was 10.22% in 2014, 3.25% higher than in 2013.

  • Admissions at Colombian films take place in the context of a growing number of Colombian and foreign titles.

  • Ticket prices in Colombia have remained at 8,000 pesos in recent years. Real ticket prices in Colombia are shown to have fallen by 2.64% since 2012.

  • The average price in dollars of movie tickets in Colombia, at the December exchange rate and adjusted for inflation to the December CPI, remains above four dollars.

  • 3D movies still top the list of movie theater admissions in Colombia.
  • Box office refers only to the earnings of each film; admissions, on the other hand, refers to the number of tickets sold. Therefore, although there is some correlation between the two variables or metrics, they may fluctuate from film to film, primarily due to the marginal costs in the ticket price and the format in which each film is screened.
