The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), committed to preserving and improving accessibility to the world's film heritage, recently, announced the election of new members to its Executive Committee. Ricardo Cantor Bossa, director of the Cinemateca de Bogotá, was elected by FIAF's General Assembly on May 2 to serve a two-year term as part of the Executive Committee, the federation’s main governing body, representing the organization's members. The Cinemateca de Bogotá, part of Bogotá's Arts Institute (Idartes), has been a full FIAF member since 1984. Over the decades, it has collaborated and built strong ties with film archives worldwide and remains an active member of the international community of archivists, curators, and stewards of audiovisual heritage.

Since 1938, the FIAF has been dedicated to preserving and ensuring access to global cinematic heritage. The Federation brings together the leading nonprofit institutions worldwide working in this field. Its key missions include maintaining an ethical code for film preservation; promoting the establishment of moving image archives in countries that do not yet have them; advocating for improvements in the legal framework governing the work of film archives; fostering specialized training and knowledge exchange on preservation techniques; strengthening cooperation among its members; and facilitating global access to films and related documents.

Ricardo Cantor Bossa has had a distinguished career in the audiovisual sector as a film producer and cultural manager. He has contributed to strengthening Colombia’s audiovisual ecosystem through organizations such as the Ministry of Culture, Proimágenes Colombia, the Cinemateca de Bogotá, the Colombian Film Heritage Foundation, the Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM), and Encuentros Cartagena.

He has served as a jury member for the Colombian Film Development Fund (FDC) and the National Incentives Program of the Ministry of Culture. He has provided technical support to the National Council for the Arts and Film Culture (CNACC), the Colombian Film Promotion Committee (CPFC), the Conference of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities of Ibero-America (CAACI), and the Intergovernmental Committee of the Ibermedia Program. Cantor played a key role in the transformation of the former Cinemateca Distrital into the new Cinemateca de Bogotá, and, as Audiovisual Arts Manager at Idartes, he took over as Director of the Cinemateca de Bogotá in 2021.

As a new member of the Executive Committee of the FIAF, Ricardo Cantor Bossa will serve alongside Peter Bagrov as President, Tiago Baptista as Secretary General, Cecilia Cenciarelli as Treasurer, and Sanchai Chotirosseranee as Executive Committee member representing full members, together with Caroline Fournier, Elisa Jochum, Heather Linville, Arike Oke, György Raduly, and Stefanie Schulte Strathaus. Representing the Associate members are Drika de Oliveira and Léonce Tira.

This marks the second time a Colombian has served on the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). The first was Jorge Nieto—journalist, researcher, author, film restorer, promoter, and executive—a member of the Committee from 1993 to 1995, representing the  Colombian Film Heritage Foundation. Along with the Cinemateca de Bogotá, the Foundation is one of the Colombian organizations affiliated with the Federation.
