The new edition of the Goya Awards that anoints the best of Spanish cinema, shortlisted 16 films for the category Best Iberoamerican Film. The board of directors of the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas chose these titles to be voted on by all the members of the academy in order to decide which would compete for the Goyas. After this process, only four made it to the final selection in this category: the Colombian film Amazona, competing alongside Tempestad by Tatiana Huezo (Mexico), Una mujer fantástica by Sebastián Lelio (Chile), and Zama by Lucrecia Martel (Argentina).

Amazona premiered on August 24 in Colombian theaters, after participating in the Colombia Official Competition at the Cartagena Film Festival (FICCI) 2017 where it received the Audience Award, joined on the mantelpiece by the Andriy Mtrosov Award received at Docudays UA (Ukraine). In the production stage, the film received a Documentary Feature Film incentive from the Colombian Fund for Cinematographic Development (FDC) in 2014. DOK.Incubator Preview granted the project a post-production incentive. In addition, Amazona received a special mention at the Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM) and ran a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in 2013, raising 142% of the goal at that time.

Recently nominated for the Fénix Film Awards, the film will soon compete at the 32nd Goya Awards.

The animated short film Camino de agua para un pez, a co-production between Colombia, Spain, and France, directed by Mercedes Marro and produced by Pierre Nothman, was also shortlisted to compete in the category of Best Animation Short Film at the Goyas.

Camino de agua para un pez has received awards at various international festivals such as Hsin-Yi Children's Animation Awards in Taiwan where it won the Best Short Film Award, Epic ACG Fest in the United States where it won as Best Animated Drama, Novara Cine Festival in Italy where it took the award for Best Original Music, and Creat Rivas de Rivas Vaciamadrid Short Film Competition in Spain where it was crowned Best Animated Short Film.
