Colombian Representation at IDFA 2026

Six Colombian films will be part of the program for the 39th edition of IDFA, which will take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from November 12 to 22, 2026. Two will compete in the documentary short film category, and the others will be featured in various sections of the festival.

“The Symphony of Strange Creatures” and “The Awakening” Hit Theaters in October

"The Symphony of Strange Creatures" and "The Awakening" will hit Colombian theaters on October 22 and 29, respectively. The former received funding from the Film Development Fund (FDC) and will have its world premiere in Sitges, Spain. The latter is the posthumous work of Jaime Osorio Márquez, completed by Federico Durán Amorocho.

The 11th edition of the Film Producers and Projects Fair (Sapcine) will take place from October 22 to 31, 2026, in Cali, as part of the 18th Cali International Film Festival (FICCALI). The event will bring together 30 Ibero-American feature film projects and more than 120 industry partners for training, consulting, market, and collaboration activities.

    The latest edition of Ventana Sur brought strong international visibility to Colombian projects, with several titles receiving major awards. Las vidas de Marie (Marie's Lives) earned a Special Jury Mention in VS Animation. Donde comienza el río (Where the River Begins) received both the Nacho Mazzini Family / Colorfront Award and the Stone Milk Award in Primer Corte. Falso positivo (False Positive) was awarded the San Sebastian Film Festival Prize in Proyecta, as well as the Sørfond Pitching Forum Award. Fura won the C21 Content Americas Award in VS Series, and El aire que se escapa (The Air That Slips Away) received the TATTÚ Translation Studio Award in VS Scripts. These recognitions positioned Colombian projects among the most prominent at the Latin American audiovisual market.

The 12th edition of MIP Cancun took place in Mexico from November 18 to 21, bringing together audiovisual professionals focused on expanding the circulation and development of television projects. This year, Colombia stood out with a strong presence that included an industry recognition for Claudia Triana, Director of Proimágenes Colombia, who received the Industry Pillar Award at the PRODU Awards, held as part of the event. In addition, seven Colombian regional broadcasters attended as part of a coordinated delegation, operating from a shared stand where they held meetings, presented projects with international circulation potential, and explored new strategic partnerships, with support from MinTIC and Proimágenes Colombia.

Three Films at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Three Colombian productions were selected for the 29th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, held from November 7 to 23 in the Estonian capital. The lineup included Una vez en un cuerpo (Once in a Body; Colombia, United States), directed by María Cristina Pérez; Disfonías (Dysphonias), directed by María Camila Pulgarín and Manuela Giraldo; and The Megalomaniacs (Greece, Cyprus, Colombia), directed by Spiros Stathoulopoulos.

The Panorama du cinéma colombien in Paris presents its 14th edition

From October 13 to 18, 2026, the 14th edition of the Panorama du cinéma colombien will take place in Paris. Organized by the association Le Chien Qui Aboie, the event will feature a lineup of 40 films. This edition offers a program focused on works that explore new forms of storytelling and the boundaries between film genres.

“Where the River Begins” and “Hijo de Tigre y Mula” Hit Theaters

"Where the River Begins" (2026), by Juan Andrés Arango, and "Hijo de tigre y mula" (2025), by Annie Canavaggio, explore the theme of returning to one’s roots and the historical processes of Latin America. The first film, which received funding from the Film Development Fund (FDC) and was produced by Inercia Películas in co-production with Canada and Norway, will hit Colombian theaters on October 15, following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and its inclusion in the Colombia Viva Official Selection at the Bogotá International Film Festival (BIFF12). The second film, a co-production between Panama and Colombia, reconstructs the negotiations that led to the return of control of the Panama Canal.

FICCALI is gearing up for a new edition

The 18th Cali International Film Festival (FICCALI), a 2026 recipient of funding under the “Film Circulation through Screenings and Film Festivals” category of the Film Development Fund (FDC), presented the program for this year’s edition, which will take place from October 16 to 25 at various venues throughout the city.

Bogotá Celebrates BIFF 12

The Bogotá International Film Festival (BIFF) kicked off its 12th edition on October 8; the festival will run through October 14 in Bogotá, featuring a lineup of 61 films and 150 screenings, as well as educational activities, meetings with national and international guests, events for the audiovisual industry, and programming open to the public at cultural, public, and university venues throughout the city.

The Biarritz Film Festival Celebrates the BOGOSHORTS Universe

From September 26 to October 2, the 35th edition of the Biarritz Amérique Latine Festival will pay tribute to BOGOSHORTS - Bogotá Short Film Festival, in recognition of its more than two decades of work in the field of short films, featuring three special programs aimed at adults, children, and young people, as well as a culinary experience inspired by BOGOSHORTS Degusta.
