Premieres of "Ayuno y cenizas" and "La sangre de Dios"

Colombian cinema is expanding its presence in commercial theaters with a double season debut. This week, theaters began screening "Ayuno y cenizas", a film by Rodrigo Dimaté that received funding from the Film Development Fund (FDC), while on the 28th, "La sangre de Dios" an action-mystery feature film that Lucho Velasco shot in the Chicamocha Canyon—will hit theaters.

"El retorno de Yuruparí" Comes to the Bogotá Botanical Garden

On August 23, the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden will host a screening and discussion of the documentary "Waunana: El aguacerito" as part of the "El retorno de Yuruparí" initiative. The event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Tropicario and the Maloca.

Cinemancia Metropolitan Film Festival Presents Its 2026 Lineup

From September 3 to 12, the Cinemancia Metropolitan Film Festival will hold its sixth edition in Medellín and municipalities in the Aburrá Valley, featuring a lineup of 109 films from 24 countries, competitions, retrospectives, special screenings, panel discussions, and educational workshops. The festival is an FDC grantee.

    The latest edition of Ventana Sur brought strong international visibility to Colombian projects, with several titles receiving major awards. Las vidas de Marie (Marie's Lives) earned a Special Jury Mention in VS Animation. Donde comienza el río (Where the River Begins) received both the Nacho Mazzini Family / Colorfront Award and the Stone Milk Award in Primer Corte. Falso positivo (False Positive) was awarded the San Sebastian Film Festival Prize in Proyecta, as well as the Sørfond Pitching Forum Award. Fura won the C21 Content Americas Award in VS Series, and El aire que se escapa (The Air That Slips Away) received the TATTÚ Translation Studio Award in VS Scripts. These recognitions positioned Colombian projects among the most prominent at the Latin American audiovisual market.

The 12th edition of MIP Cancun took place in Mexico from November 18 to 21, bringing together audiovisual professionals focused on expanding the circulation and development of television projects. This year, Colombia stood out with a strong presence that included an industry recognition for Claudia Triana, Director of Proimágenes Colombia, who received the Industry Pillar Award at the PRODU Awards, held as part of the event. In addition, seven Colombian regional broadcasters attended as part of a coordinated delegation, operating from a shared stand where they held meetings, presented projects with international circulation potential, and explored new strategic partnerships, with support from MinTIC and Proimágenes Colombia.

Three Films at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Three Colombian productions were selected for the 29th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, held from November 7 to 23 in the Estonian capital. The lineup included Una vez en un cuerpo (Once in a Body; Colombia, United States), directed by María Cristina Pérez; Disfonías (Dysphonias), directed by María Camila Pulgarín and Manuela Giraldo; and The Megalomaniacs (Greece, Cyprus, Colombia), directed by Spiros Stathoulopoulos.

CONEXCINE 2026 Announces Its Official Selection

The CONEXCINE Audiovisual Festival, an initiative of FEDECAJAS and a recipient of FDC funding, announced the official selection for its third edition, which will feature 45 short films across four competitions. The call for entries received more than 450 submissions from different regions of the country.

“La Unión” is in production

The Colombian-Spanish co-production, the feature film debut of Catalan director and screenwriter Cordelia Alegre, has begun filming, which will last five weeks: one week in Barcelona and four weeks in various municipalities in southwestern Antioquia. The project includes Colombian participation and is eligible for benefits under Law 814 of 2003.

Colombian cinema will be featured at the San Sebastian Film Festival

Colombia’s participation in the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival will feature the selection of "Cinco años, cuatro meses" by Juan Miguel Gelacio and Esteban Hoyos García in the Horizontes Latinos section, as well as the inclusion of "Lovers Go Home!" by Juan Sebastián Mesa and "Todos los lugares a donde ir" by Ana Tiagx Vélez in the Work in Progress Latinoamérica (WIP Latam) section. The festival will take place from September 18 to 26 in Spain.

Colombia at the Florianópolis Mercosur Audiovisual Festival

Four Colombian films have been selected for the official selection of the 30th Florianópolis International Mercosur Audiovisual Film Festival (FAM), which will take place September 3–9 in Florianópolis, Brazil. Three fiction short films and one documentary will represent the country in the Short Film Section and the Online Section.

Two premieres in August

"Mi pueblo infierno, el inicio de una guerra" by Víctor Alfonso González Ochoa hit theaters on August 6, and "Puntos de fuga", directed by Lina Rodríguez, premieres on August 13.
