BAM16 accreditations now open

The Bogota Audiovisual Market - BAM opens the accreditation process for its 16th edition. The first stage will be open until June 15, aimed at all companies and individuals who want to be part of one of the most important audiovisual markets in the region, to be held in July. In this edition, BAM 2025 is presented with new bets on critical thinking, technological inclusion and the formation of audiences.

Two films compete in cannes

Simón Mesa Soto returns to the world's most important festival with his second feature film, Un poeta, which will participate in Un Certain Regard. And the co-production Culebra negra, directed by French director Aurélien Vernhes-Lermusiaux, will have its world premiere in the parallel section ACID Cannes, which has been the stage for the first films of several renowned filmmakers in recent years. Both are beneficiaries of the FDC.

More Colombian presence at Cannes

Juanita Onzaga participates in Immersive selection - Focus with her film Floating with spirits (Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands), in Cannes Docs, the project We were a great family directed by Cristina Rosselló, Chiara Marañón and Juan Soto Taborda. The Bogoshorts Universe will be part of the SFC | Rendez-vous Industry with two collections of short films for the Marché du Film, a market that will take place in parallel to the festival, from May 13 to 21. These collections will be available for viewing by accredited industry professionals, such as festival programmers, producers, critics, among others. There will be a large delegation of accredited companies at the event, including distributors, production companies and festival representatives, accompanied by Claudia Triana, general director of Proimágenes Colombia, and members of the organization's International Promotion team.

The Colombian Film Academy announced the 20 selected for the second edition of Lab Macondo, whose virtual phase will begin on May 20. In this year's applications, there is a wide participation of people from different areas of the country, the presence of diverse ethnic and cultural groups, and women.

    In the 37th edition of the Toulouse Film Festival, Colombia was represented with a selection of fourteen productions that reflect the country's diversity and talent: Horizonte (Horizon), Malta, and Querido trópico (Dear Tropics) in the feature film competition; Alma del desierto (Soul of the Desert) in the documentary competition; Estamos en el mapa (We Are on the Map) and Afuera el mundo cae sobre mi cuerpo (Outside the World Falls on My Body) in the short film category; two short films in the Focus: Indigenous Voices and Perspectives section; and the country's participation in activities for professionals. Querido trópico and Alma del desierto received prizes.

Por cielo y tierra (Through heaven and Earth), El vaquero (The Cowboy), and A menos que bailemos (Unless We Dance) had their Chicago premieres at the Chicago Latino Film Festival; Estimados señores (Dear Gentlemen), opening the festival, and Horizonte (Horizons) had its U.S. premiere. Meanwhile, Semillas (Seeds) and Sed (Thirst) had their world premieres during the 41st edition of the event.

Tokyo: The Beginning and Wherever You Want Premiere

Restored version of Love, Women, and Flowers is released

The documentary, directed by Marta Rodríguez and Jorge Silva, returns to the big screen in a version restored by Felipe Colmenares of the Fundación Cine Documental. The new version of this work, which marked a milestone in the country's audiovisual history, returns to meet again with new generations of viewers after its world premiere in the Cannes Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival 2023.

Ricardo Cantor, new FIAF executive committee member

The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), committed since 1938 to the preservation of and access to the world's film heritage, recently announced the election of the new members of its Executive Committee. Among them is Ricardo Cantor Bossa, director of the Cinemateca de Bogotá, who is now part of this governing body along with 12 other members.
