This is how the Colombian Film Season is going

The sixth edition of the Colombian Film Season in 2024 brings a diverse program that celebrates the richness of our cinema. With special screenings, the Rumbo a los Macondo route, screenings as part of BAM Regiones, and regional screenings, the Season is present in 19 departments of the country, offering families the opportunity to enjoy, with free admission, a selection of films that explore the essence and cultural diversity of Colombia.

Two Colombian films at PÖFF

The 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will take place from November 8 to 24 in Estonia. Semilla del desierto by Sebastián Parra R. is part of the Official Selection, while Cuerpo de esta sombra by Andrea Muñoz is in the Animated Short Film Competition.

Colombia at DOC NY

The 15th DOC NYC - America's Largest Documentary Festival will be held from November 13 to December 1. Alma del desierto by Mónica Taboada-Tapia will participate in the International Competition, and Bienvenidos conquistadores interplanetarios y del espacio sideral by Andrés Jurado, in the Kaleidoscope Competition.

New MIDBO edition

The 26th Bogota International Documentary Exhibition will be held from October 29 to November 4, with a selection of 100 documentaries. It will also feature academic activities such as the Seminar Pensar lo Real.

  • Colombian presence in Toronto

    The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which runs from September 5 to 15, will feature the world premieres of several Colombian films, including Horizonte (Horizon) by César Augusto Acevedo, Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina (Pimpinero: Blood and Gasoline) by Andrés Baiz, and Querido Trópico (Dear Tropic) by Ana Endara. The short film 1 Hijo & 1 Padre (1 Son & 1 Father) by Andrés Ramírez Pulido will also be screened, while Colombian filmmaker Samir Oliveros will present his latest feature film, The Luckiest Man in America.

The 72nd edition of the San Sebastián Festival will take place from September 20 to 28. In the Horizontes Latinos section, La piel en Primavera (Spring Skin), the debut feature by Yennifer Uribe Alzate, and Querido Trópico (Dear Tropic) by Ana Endara will compete. Four other projects will also participate in the Industry section.

Colombia at the Sao Paulo Showcase

One film is part of the International Perspective selection, seven films are in the New Directors Competition, and one is in the Mostra Brasil. The 48th Mostra Internacional de Cinema em São Paulo takes place from October 17 to 30 in Brazil, with the presence of a large Colombian delegation.

Soul of the Desert and Lanawaru at IDFA

Alma del desierto by Mónica Taboada-Tapia competes in the Best of Fests section, while Lanawaru by Angello Fiaccini is in the IDFA Short Documentary Competition. In turn, a Colombian delegation will be present at the 37th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, to be held from November 14 to 24.

FICCALI Programming

The 16th edition of the event will take place from November 12 to 17, with the presence of national and international guests, an activation of the Colombian film tarot and several national films in competition.

Next week's premieres

On October 24, Camila Beltrán's Mi bestia (My Beast), a story set in Bogotá in the 1990s, will hit theaters nationwide; Marta Hincapié Uribe's Bajo una lluvia ajena (Under a Foreign Rain), which weaves a dialogue between images and stories where multiple immigrant voices and faces intertwine through videocards; Next to them is El titán directed by Alexander Giraldo, a documentary with archival material that builds the traces left by Elkin Ramírez, leader of the band Kraken and the most important exponent in the history of national rock.

Award for Colombia at FIDBA

El nadador by Camilo Londoño Hernández, received the YAGAN FILMS Award: Sound Postproduction for the trailer of his project, in the laboratory for documentary projects in development and production.
