Synopsis

On December 18, 2005, a native was elected president of Bolivia for the first time. This election was the result of the decades-long mobilization process of historically excluded social sectors such as the coca growers, who have lead the social movements seeking the political and social transformation of the Andean country. It was this process that saw the formation of Evo Morales as a leader and of the consolidation of the political project that gave origin to the MAS (or “Movement Towards Socialism”) – IPSP political party.
