Synopsis

Who gets to tell the story? What do we decide to remember and forget? Who are the thousands of “N. N.’s” that lived and died anonymously in the complex and violent reality of a country that sometimes calls itself “the second happiest in the world”? This experimental documentary shows, with irony and “solid facts”, the moral limits of a nation that has lived it all, tracing faces, stories, and opinions. The sinuous paths, rivers, and creeks of the region serve as a backdrop for the human dimension of the conflict and as an allegory of the contradictions and similarities within the Guaviare´s cultural mosaic. In Meanders, the meandering course of a river brings communities closer or keeps them the stories of men and women whose lives are discovered through judiciary files or reported as “false positives” in the media. Against the silence of tombs, the story of one “N.N.”, Nestor Núñez, unfolds like that of any other Colombian and yet at the same time like no other: his achievements and mistakes like those of his generation; his life and disappearance an enigma. The film chronicles the story of thousands of people who have disappeared in Colombia at the hands of state-sanctioned “obscure forces”.
