Synopsis
Narcopotamos follows the thirty-year journey of a couple of hippos: how they arrived from Africa, adapted, survived and subsequently developed into the new lords of the rivers –a parallel to Colombia’s own socio-economic adaptation and survival through thirty years of drug trafficking and times of civil war and struggle. The documentary recounts this absurd and paradoxical thirty-year story, at once farce and tragedy, as seen through the eyes of a creature whose vision is deformed by its very innocence— namely, the extravagant pet of Colombia’s most powerful drug trafficker.
