Marcela Lizcano

Marcela Lizcano was born in Bogota, Colombia. In 2002, she completed studies in photography at the French Academy of the Image, and in 2003 she traveled to Buenos Aires to continue her film directing studies at the Universidad de Cine (FUC). She has worked on the direction and production of several shorts and feature films that have participated in international festivals and screenings, and as a photographer on several documentaries in Latin America.
 
She has made the short films: Antes del mar (Argentina, fiction, 3 min, 2009); Enterrados (Argentina, fiction, 12 min, 2009); and Retratos (Argentina, 5 min, documentary, 2010). She directed and produced the documentary Isolated, her first feature film, about the inhabitants and everyday life of the island Santa Cruz del Islote, Colombia.
 
Isolated has participated in more than 15 international festivals. On its festival tour, the documentary has won the Best Documentary award in the Nuestra América category at DOCSDF 2015; the Caracol TV award in the National Competition at MIDBO 2015; the Best Documentary award in the Caribbean category at FICBAQ 2016; and the Best Documentary award at the 2016 Colombian Film Festival in New York. It also took part in the Official Selection at the 2015 Warsaw Film Festival in Poland and at the 58th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (DOKLEIPZIG). As a project, it received the incentive for documentary film production from the Colombian Film Development Fund (FDC), the 2014 CNC Ecuador co-production award, and the BAM Screenings award for Best Documentary.
 
In 2012, Lizcano created the production company Viceversa Cine, dedicated to facilitating and encouraging audiovisual co-production and exploring new narratives. Viceversa is currently producing several projects related to art, culture, and human rights and is co-producing several Latin American documentaries: the transmedia platform Isolated; Se morir, a feature documentary by Sarahi Echeverría (Ecuador - Colombia 2015); Doble yo, a feature documentary by Felipe Rugeles (Colombia 2016); and the transmedia project ANOKUA, Los guardianes del equilibrio (France - Colombia 2016), which will be her next job as a director.

Filming
