Ángela Carabalí's Soñé su nombre was honored with the Special Jury Prize – International Feature Documentary at Hot Docs. This is one of the world's most prestigious documentary film festivals, which held its 32nd edition in Canada. The festival highlights and supports the work of Canadian and international filmmakers, promoting excellence in the documentary genre. In addition to its annual showcase, Hot Docs strengthens the industry year-round through various production funds and exhibition programs.

The feature was part of the International Spectrum Competition and was directed by Ángela Carabalí, who also co-wrote the script with Juliana Carabalí. It is a co-production between Carabalí Films & New Media and Sandelion Productions. Ángela Carabalí also served as producer, executive producer, and editor. Eloísa Arcila Fernández was responsible for sound design and location sound alongside Daniel Vásquez V. -CAS. Sandra Tabares Duque was producer and executive producer, Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza served as executive producer, Liberman Arango was director of photography, and Juancho Valencia composed the original score.

After denying her pain for 30 years, Ángela is forced to confront her past when her father asks her to search for him in a dream. Together with her sister, Juliana, she embarks on a journey across Colombia to the indigenous lands where their father, an Afro-Colombian farmer, was forcibly disappeared. Traveling from Medellín to Caloto in the troubled department of Cauca, the sisters confront contradictions tied to the land, unresolved family emotions, and Indigenous spirituality. This opens up an unexpected path for Ángela to reconnect with her father. This is the premise of this documentary.

While still in development, Soñé su nombre won the In-Progress Film Forum for AFRO and INDIGENOUS Voices at the 2024 Vancouver Latin American Film Festival in Canada. It also received support at the Documentary Filmmaking Workshop at the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI, 2020), an Arts and Culture grant from the Mayor's Office of Medellín (2019), and the Brouillon d'un Rêve Documentaire development grant from SCAM (France, 2017), among others. In addition, the project was selected for the Ibero-American Work in Progress section at SANFIC in Chile (2024), BAM Film Screenings at the Bogotá Audiovisual Market (2024), and the Sheffield DocFest MeetMarket in the UK (2024), among other international platforms.

Colombia was also represented in the industry section of the event. Justicia en el país de la niebla (Justice in the Land of Fog), a documentary project by Laura Dauden co-produced by Colombia and Spain, was selected for the Deal Maker pitching program this year. The program consists of a series of one-on-one meetings designed for producers seeking international financing and distribution. A total of 42 documentary projects were selected for this edition.

Juanita Vélez is a skilled investigative journalist who has spent years covering Colombia's peacebuilding process. She's now on a mission to expose the judicial setup industry, a hidden form of political violence that targets students and social leaders. Her journey intertwines with a poetic retrospective of women who have faced persecution, imprisonment, and harassment for standing up for their beliefs. The project has previously participated in other platforms, including Cinema Pendent – L'Alternativa Festival (2024), the Barcelona International Short Film and Animation Festival – Pitching Sessions and International Short Film Market (2023), and the Acció Curts program by Dones Visuals (2023), among others.
