Colombian Presence at MIP Cancun
Pantalla Colombia No.: 143octubre 01 - diciembre 07 / 2025
The 12th edition of MIP Cancun took place in Mexico from November 18 to 21, bringing together audiovisual professionals focused on expanding the circulation and development of television projects. This year, Colombia stood out with a strong presence that included an industry recognition for Claudia Triana, Director of Proimágenes Colombia, who received the Industry Pillar Award at the PRODU Awards, held as part of the event. In addition, seven Colombian regional broadcasters attended as part of a coordinated delegation, operating from a shared stand where they held meetings, presented projects with international circulation potential, and explored new strategic partnerships, with support from MinTIC and Proimágenes Colombia.
The event brings together audiovisual professionals seeking to advance the development and circulation of television content. It operates through a system of pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings to facilitate direct contact with international distributors and content buyers from Latin America and the US Hispanic market. Over three days, participants follow a customized agenda combining individual meetings, roundtables, and networking opportunities with key industry players. The event also includes briefings on market trends, industry dynamics, and circulation pathways that shape production and distribution across Latin America and other territories.
Colombian participation included a formal tribute to Claudia Triana de Vargas, Director of Proimágenes Colombia, who received the Industry Pillar Award on Thursday, November 20. The recognition was presented during the PRODU Awards, a ceremony honoring achievements in Spanish-language and Latin content production. Held in partnership with MIP Cancun, the awards bring together professionals involved across different stages of content creation and circulation. The same distinction was also awarded to Colombian executive Matilde de Boshell, President of MBA Networks.
A delegation made up of representatives from seven regional public broadcasters (Telecaribe, Telepacífico, Canal TRO, Canal Capital, Canal Trece, Telecafé, and Teleislas) also attended, as part of a strategy to expand the international reach of Colombian public television. The delegation was supported by MinTIC and Proimágenes Colombia. A consolidated catalog represented by E-motion was developed for the market, and the delegation operated from a dedicated stand where meetings were held, projects with international potential were reviewed, and new partnerships were pursued. The stand served as a commercial showcase for public television content and as a platform to strengthen its visibility in international markets.
"What stands out most from these experiences is, first, the recognition within the industry, making sure Colombian public television is on the radar of distributors, buyers, and coproducers. Second, building a proper catalog. We all had catalogs before, but we had never created them with these markets in mind. And finally, understanding how pitching works and how to approach buyers and distributors," said Luz Adriana Latorre, General Manager of Telepacífico.
The event also featured Próxima Films with the project PYME ¿Por qué merezco esto? (Why do I deserve this?), which had previously been selected at the Bogotá Audiovisual Market – BAM (2025) in the BAM Series (Series in Development) category, earning a direct pass to Conecta Fiction 2026, as well as a direct invitation to MIP Cancun. The project also received support from ProColombia and the Film Commission to attend the market. "These spaces are really valuable, as they allow us to meet in different types of markets and independent production companies like ours to be present," said project director Paula Lugo. "If we manage to connect with people who can take these ideas further, that’s a win".
With a focus on closing content deals, strengthening professional networks, and engaging in coproduction spaces, several Colombian companies attended the market with support from the Film Commission: Metro Television, Teaserd Company, La Sucursal Films, Los Notarios, Ajna Cinema, 16A-13, Opción Video Digital, as well as Próxima Films and E-Motion. Their participation was made possible through the current support call under Law 1556 of 2012, aimed at promoting attendance at international audiovisual markets. This call remains open until January 10 and also includes participation in Content Americas 2026.
On an institutional level, Colombia also took part in networking activities with film commissions from Mexico and other Ibero-American countries, as well as in educational sessions focused on coproduction with Colombia and on promoting the country as a destination for international projects.
