Anina Wins Award at Anima Mundi

Also in attendance at this event --one of the most important animation events in the world-- were Mi abuela, in competition, and Semáforo and Sinfonía del caos in non-competitive categories.

Alfredo Soderguit's Anina and Carlos Smith's Mi abuela were in Brazil for the 21st International Animation Festival (ANIMA MUNDI), one of the biggest animation events in the world, with an extensive program of screenings, workshops and exhibitions taking place in the two major cities: Rio de Janeiro (August 2-11) and Sao Paulo (August 14-18).
 
The Colombo-Uruguayan co-production Anina by Alfredo Soderguit, produced by Colombian Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza's Antorcha Films and based on the novel Anina Yatay Salas written by Sergio López Suárez, was part of the festival's official selection. The film competed for Best Children's Feature Film and received the Audience Award in this category. This production had its world premiere at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival and was awarded Best Picture and Best Director in Colombia at the Cartagena International Festival (100% Colombia category) and won the Audience Award for Best Foreign Film at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival (BAFICI).
 
Mi abuela, the story of a girl from the city’s journey to her grandmother's house in the country, competed in the Best Short Film for Children category. This production also participated in the official selection of the Children's and Youth Film Competition at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, the world’s most important event for short experimental films; at the 53rd Zlín Film Festival in the Czech Republic, where it competed in the International Animated Children’s Shorts category, and then traveled to the United States for the 18th Annual Nantucket Film Festival. Mi abuela has also screened at festivals in New York, the UK and Paris.
 
Also screening with Anina and Mi abuela at this edition of Anima Mundi were the Colombo-American co-production Semáforo by Simon Wilches-Castro, in the Panorama category, and Jimmy Cho’s Sinfonía del caos, in the Gallery category.
