The feature film Saluda al diablo de mi parte (Say Hello to the Devil for Me) directed by Juan Felipe Orozco hit Colombian screens on August 12, 2011. The film stars Venezuelan Golden Globe nominee Edgar Ramírez (Carlos: El chacal, El ultimatum Bourne) and Colombians Carolina Gómez (Bluff), Ricardo Vélez (Yo soy Betty la fea – TV), Juan Carlos Vargas (Kalibre 35) and Peruvian Salvador del Solar (Pantaleón y las visitadoras). Following its Colombian premiere the film will be released in Venezuela and other Latin American countries.

In Say Hello to the Devil for Me, Angel and his daughter are kidnapped by the powerful Leder, a former victim of a band of kidnappers of which Angel is a part. Leder lost the use of his legs during his captivity and now, several years later, in a wheelchair and accompanied by his sister Helena, will go to any length to avenge himself with those who destroyed his life. Against his will, Angel is forced to become Leder’s instrument of vengeance, killing everyone who participated in the latter’s kidnapping, if he wants to keep his daughter alive.

The film’s main theme is vengeance. But we’ve managed to touch also on the pain experienced by victims, especially in Colombia, where there is seldom real support from the government and people simply watch as those who harmed them go unpunished. This is what leads to the law being “taken into one’s own hands”, something present throughout the film,” stated the Orozco brothers to local media following the film’s media launch in their native Medellin.

The film was written by Carlos Esteban Orozco, brother of director Juan Felipe Orozco. The brothers also co-wrote and co-produced Al final del espectro (2006), the director’s first film starring Noëlle Schonwald, Kepa Amuchastegui, Julieth Restrepo and Silvia de Dios. Al final del espectro was selected for more than 20 international festivals and was the first Colombian film purchased for a North American remake.

Foreign distribution for Say Hello to the Devil for Me has been confirmed with Maya Entertainment and Celluloid Nightmares. The former will distribute in the US and the latter in France, the UK, Germany, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Indonesia and the Middle East.

The feature was produced by the Orozco brothers’ Sanantero Films with producer credits going to Juan Felipe Orozco, Carlos Esteban Orozco and Alejandro Ángel. Luís Enrique Otero was director of photography and Sara Millán did production design. The soundtrack was written by Jermain Stegal, a North American musician with a long career who scored Blood Out starring Val Kilmer, and features cellist/composer Martin Tillman, known for his work on soundtracks for The Dark Knight, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Hawk Down and many others.
