Sebastián Hernández
He is an editor and post-production director who has worked in the editing of fiction and documentary films and series for the past fifteen years. He has received the Macondo Award for Best Editing from the Colombian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the feature films La sangre y la lluvia (The blood and the rain, 2009) by Jorge Navas and El páramo (The Squad, 2011) by Jaime Osorio Márquez.
A graduate of Unitec's Film and Television program (2005), he is the main editor and founding partner of the post-production company PostBros and co-founder of Ruvrika, a film advertising company.
He began his career as an editor in 2007 with the feature film Cuarenta (Forty) by Carlos Fernández de Soto, a Lulo Films production commercially released in 2011. He would later edit La sangre y la lluvia, the documentary A los 15 uno ya es grande (At 15 you are a grown-up, 2010) by Klych López —a film on the 15 years of the Rock al Parque Festival—, and the feature film Beatriz González ¿por qué llora si ya reí? (Beatriz González, Why Are You Crying?, 2012) by Diego García Moreno —a portrait of the Colombian visual artist and her work that has accompanied several of her exhibitions worldwide—.
He began then a prolific career leading him to participate in the editing of Buenaventura, no me dejes más (Buenaventura, don't leave me anymore, 2014) by Marcela Gómez, a documentary produced by Caracol Televisión and Laberinto Cine y Televisión portraying the life of musician Yuri Buenaventura. Sebastián was also the general producer and editor of Guerras ajenas (Wars of others, 2016) —the first HBO feature documentary made in Colombia, directed by Carlos Moreno and produced by PostBros— and Balada para niños muertos (Ballad for dead children, 2019) by Jorge Navas —a feature film reconstructing the gothic obsessions of writer Andrés Caicedo—.
Sebastián was the conceptual editor of the Caracol Televisión's 40-episode series Los hombres también lloran (Men also cry, 2014) by Carlos Moreno, Laura Mora, and Alessandro Angulo; and El laberinto (The labirynth, 2012). He was also the editor-in-chief of Netflix original Pickpockets (2018) by Peter Webber, produced by Fullhouse and FIVE 7 Media; lead editor of Netflix original fiction series Distrito salvaje (Wild district, 2019) and Frontera verde (Green frontier, 2019); chief editor of Ruido capital (Capital noise, 2020) —a series directed by Pablo Stoll, Ana Katz, and Mauricio Leiva-Cock, produced by Fidelio Films for Movistar Latinoamérica—; and editor of the documentary series El otro lado del fútbol (The other side of soccer, 2012) for Discovery Channel and Los Montaner (The Montaners, 2022) for NTERTAIN Studios and Disney+.
He was the editor of the fiction feature films Climas (Climates, 2013) by Peruvian Enrica Pérez; Amazonas (2015) by Carlos Moreno, Jorge Navas, María Gamboa, Spiros Stathoulopoulos, and Javier Mejía; Violencia (Violence, 2015) by Jorge Forero; El día de la cabra (Bad Lucky Goat, 2017) by Samir Oliveros; and Expatriot (2017) by Conor Allyn for Caracol TV and Marvista Entertainment.
His most recent work includes editing The Boy from Medellín (2021), an Amazon original documentary about artist J. Balvin, directed by Matt Heinemann; Zackary Canepari & Drea Cooper's feature documentary Diamond Hands (2022) about Game Stop and Wallstreet Bets; Laura Mora's Golden Shell-winning Los reyes del mundo (Los reyes del mundo, 2022); and the feature documentary American Symphony - Jon Batiste (2022) directed by Matt Heinemann.
